Le 12 août 2020, l’administration américaine a annoncé des droits de douane supplémentaires (25%), concernant de nouvelles catégories de produits alimentaires, en l’occurrence les confitures (fraise, framboise, airelles, mûres et autres baies, abricot, cerise, pêche) et les pâtes et purées de fruit (fraise). Ceux-ci s’ajoutent aux droits appliqués en temps normal à compter du 1^er septembre.

Ces nouvelles barrières douanières s’inscrivent dans le cadre du contentieux Airbus, indique le service agricole de l'Ambassade de France aux États-Unis. Depuis 2006, les Etats-Unis contestent devant l’OMC le soutien porté à Airbus par l’Union européenne et de quatre pays (Allemagne, Espagne, France, Royaume-Uni). En 2018, l’Union européenne a été condamnée. Et en octobre 2019, le préjudice a été établi à 7,5 Mds$. Un montant que les Etats-Unis sont autorisés à appliquer chaque année sur des importations de produits en provenance de l’Union européenne ou de certains de ses Etats membres.

Une première liste de produits surtaxés avait été établie début octobre 2019 et l’application des droits supplémentaires effective depuis le 18 octobre 2019.
